I didn’t get my first adult winter coat until I was in my 30’s. I’m not even joking. As a child, I had so many brightly colored, 80’s puffy jackets for the few times it snowed. It does tend to get very cold (and even below freezing) in the Portland area, but for some reason a winter coat wasn’t something I wanted to purchase as an adult.
I spent most winters in my 20’s layering and wearing a wool peacoat when I had to go out in the cold. Finally, when I turned 30 I decided I needed to be a real adult and find myself a warm coat built for freezing weather. I bought myself a black, puffer coat from Old Navy, similar to this one, but longer. It was the best decision and I still wear it constantly!
Since I finally realized how important a warm coat was, I asked for this super cute coat for Christmas. I love the olive green color as it goes with everything! I read the reviews and they suggested to size down one so I went with an XXS. Typically, I don’t wear bulky items under my coats so this one fits me perfectly. However, if you like to wear thicker sweaters underneath I would definitely stick to your typical size for more room.

Also, my brother’s girlfriend got the same coat in the same color so we are twins now! 🙂
Do you need a warm winter coat where you are from?
