Let’s be honest, life can be hard! Everyone is busier than ever and things can get so stressful! Currently I’m working full time, going to school part time, and blogging part time! It can be a LOT of work and some days I end up in the worst mood because of how overwhelmed I am! I wanted to share a few tips on how you can improve your mood on those days when you’re really struggling!
Make plans with a friend
Having something to look forward to is a great mood booster! I know when I have fun plans scheduled ahead of time, on those hard days when I’m feeling down, I can remember something fun I have coming up and it gives me something to think about and get excited for! Even just planning a quick lunch date with a friend can make you feel so much better!
Treat yourself
Sometimes when I’m not feeling my greatest, something small can improve my mood. Grabbing my favorite candy bar, getting a cute shirt on sale, or even just doing a face mask. Taking some time to enjoy or do something I don’t normally take the time for can make me feel so much better.
Cuddle your dog
If you don’t have a dog, cuddle a friend’s dog. Or a cat. Or go to your local shelter and give the furry animals some love. It’s been proven that just petting a dog can bring your stress level down. When I’m feeling down in the dumps snuggling up on the couch with my pups makes me feel a whole lot better!
Start a new book/podcast/tv series
Sometimes all it takes to change your mood is a distraction. Focusing on something else for a period of time can make you forget about the things you are stressing about. Getting lost in a new book is one of my favorite ways to relax and take my mind off of life for a while. I also love to listen to podcasts in the car while I’m in traffic because they give me something to think about and focus on!
Take a nap
Who doesn’t love a good nap?! A nap can make so many things better. Sometimes when I’m feeling extremely overwhelmed I will just lay down and nap for a half hour. It’s kind of like when you get so overwhelmed that instead of doing something you do nothing. Haha! But it really can improve your mood! I usually wake up feeling a lot less grumpy!
Work out
I’ve been working out regularly the last month or so and I can’t even tell you how much it has improved my mood! I feel so much less stressed when I get a work out in! I also sleep better. If you need to blow off some steam, going for a run can really help you center yourself. After a work out I feel so productive and like I can conquer so much!
Make a list
You can write out a physical list or just go over it in your head but I find listing the things I’m thankful for to be so helpful when I’m feeling bad. If something happens that I’m upset about I go through and remember the things I have that I feel grateful to have. It makes things seem so much more trivial when you think about your current problem. You may be having a bad day but remember, there is so much more to life that is so good!
